Mission

Speech pathologist working with an elderly patient.

At Speech Matters, we offer speech, swallow, cognitive, and voice therapy that goes beyond traditional practice — providing compassionate, trauma-informed, and medically integrated care, while empowering individuals and families through complex medical journeys and life transitions.

We stand apart in the field by fully embedding speech-language pathology into the continuum of medical, palliative, and rehabilitative care. With extensive experience in neurodegenerative conditions, serious illness, and end-of-life support, we work in close collaboration with physicians, nurses, social workers, and care teams to ensure every client receives coordinated, thoughtful treatment that nurtures their comfort and protects what matters most to them.

Rooted in empathy and clinical expertise, our work focuses on strengthening connection, supporting independence, and improving quality of life — whether a person is recovering from injury or adapting to the progression of advanced illness. We bring presence, patience, and a deep understanding of what individuals and families need in moments of uncertainty, offering reliable guidance and steady care.

At Speech Matters, we are committed to showing up fully — clinically, emotionally, and collaboratively — so every person feels seen, supported, and empowered at every stage of their journey.

What Our Clients Say

  • "I suffered a TBI a few years back and I was very lucky to get referred to Ariela Shandling by my neurologist. My brain injury left me with many issues. Poor memory, not able to concentrate, unable to do simple math. I truly believe if it hadn't been for her therapy and support system she created for me, I would be lost! You truly made a difference for me and my family. We are forever indebted to you!"

    Gloria, 40

  • I had a stroke in my brain stem and I suffer from Cerebellar Stroke Syndrome and other cognitive deficits. Ariela performed screening assessments and designed her treatment plans to help me develop speech and voice skills. She educated my wife and I about my disability and taught me exercises to help me in my daily life. I will always be grateful to her and those who come in contact with her will not regret it.

    David, 60

  • “When my son Bryson was 17 months old, he was delayed in his speech. After testing confirmed he was at the level of an 11-month-old, I was devastated. When we met Ariela, I was nervous but hopeful. Bryson instantly gravitated to her. She was engaging, brought games and learning material that catered to his needs, and made it fun. I noticed the growth and the confidence that my son obtained in his ability to communicate. The benefits of him working with Ariela are endless.”

    Bryson, 17 Months

  • "As a broadcaster, my livelihood depends on speaking clearly, thinking quickly, and staying sharp. Months after my head injury, there were effects impacting my speech and recall. Before working with Ariela, my recovery plateaued. After my first session, not only had I finally found hope, but results. Her understanding of what I was going through was reassuring, and she crafted an expert plan with clear and actionable strategies to get me back to where I needed to be. It was breakthrough after breakthrough. The treatment and care I received were top notch, and allowed me to get back to my passion."
